Understanding Your Homeowner's Policy
A homeowner's policy is a multi-package policy that combines many different coverages and endorsements into one policy. This policy not only covers the dwelling but other structures located on the premises, your personal contents, loss of use, and personal liability.
-
Dwelling- The homeowner's policy provides protection for repair or replacement of your home and any attached structure such as an attached garage.
-
Other Structures - Provides protection to repair or replace structures not attached to the dwelling, such as an unattached carport or shed.
-
Personal Contents- Covers your furniture, clothing, appliances and most other family personal property at your home or anywhere in the world. Any valued item like jewelry, furs, musical instruments, etc. should be covered at their full value under a Special Personal Lines Endorsement.
-
Loss of Use- Provides funds for extra living costs if an actual loss sustained for a 12 months period if you cannot live in your home due to a loss covered by your policy.
-
Liability- Provides protection against losses, such as a lawsuit that someone has filed against you. This includes coverage for bodily injury to others and property damage resulting from your personal activities or conditions on your property.
-
Medical Expenses- Covers medical expenses of up to $1,000 per person for injuries that occur to a visitor while on your property. This coverage will not cover yourself or your family.
Understanding Flood Insurance
Damage to your home and possessions caused by a flood could consume your life savings. You can protect yourself against one of nature's greatest catastrophes!
Flood Insurance is designed to reimburse at actual cash value for losses due to flood or flood related erosion. A flood policy is determined by flood zones which are assigned depending on the likelihood of your property flooding. Flood policies are written on behalf of the National Flood Insurance Program, which is an insurance program administered by the Federal Insurance Administration.
RENTER
Renter's Insurance is designed for those who rent their home. Whether it be an apartment or house, renters need coverage for their personal contents. The landlord is responsible for providing insurance for the building.
Like a homeowner's policy, renters insurance includes protection for personal property, loss of use, personal liability, and medical payments to others.
UMBRELLA
Looking for Extra Liability Coverage
An umbrella policy is designed to help guard you from catastrophic liability losses. It provides extra coverage above your automobile and homeowner's policy liability limits. Anything from your pet attacking a visitor in your home to support for legal defense against a liability judgment against yourself can present a need for personal liability. No matter what your level of income is, protection from a liability loss should be a concern.
How Much Protection Will I Need?
By reviewing your current coverages and comparing the coverages to your assets, an insurance agent can help you determine a plan that protects you from unforeseeable events. |
